Jewellery Care

General

Please store unworn jewellery in a box or pouch.
Avoid perfumes, cosmetics, lotions and hairsprays - I recommend putting on your jewellery last.
Please do not wear your jewellery in the bath or shower, and do not wear while swimming.

Cleaning

Please clean your pieces in a bowl of warm soapy water, and if required, use a soft brush to remove any dirt.
Rinse thoroughly in water.
Leave to air dry on a soft cloth towel, tissue or kitchen roll.

Silver

All silver tarnishes, however by following the steps above you can keep your jewellery looking at its best for longer. The good news is that tarnishing is very easily removed and it is easy to get your jewellery back to its original finish.

Using a silver dip is a good way to remove any tarnish, however follow the instructions carefully and please rinse the piece thoroughly afterwards to prevent any residue causing further staining.

A silver cloth is a easy, quick and effective way to clean up your silver jewellery.

Oxidised Silver

Oxidising is a chemical process that darkens the appearance of silver. Over time oxidised jewellery may begin to lighten up, and you may see some silver reappearing around the edges, particularly in pieces such as rings and bangles, that move and come into contact with other surfaces.

Many people like this effect, in fact much of my work is already finished in this way, but should you wish to have your piece re-oxidised this can easily be redone.

Do not use silver dip on oxidised pieces as this will remove the patina.

Please remove any oxidised rings when washing up or washing your hands.

Gold Plated Silver

I use a high quality 2 micron gold plating on top of sterling silver. By following the steps above, this finish should last well.

Please remove any gold plated rings when washing up or washing your hands.

Do not use silver dip on plated jewellery, and do not heavily brush the piece while cleaning.

Plated jewellery can benefit from an occasional clean in warm, soapy water, rinsed thoroughly, and left to air dry. You can gently use a polishing cloth, but be careful not to rub too hard.

I offer a re-plating service. Pricing is dependent on the size of the piece.

If the piece is less than 12 months old and re-plating is required as a result of general wear, then there will be no charge.

Keumboo

Keumboo is a fine layer of 22ct gold that is fused to the surface of silver.

It’s thicker than gold leaf and gold plating, and so with care will last well.

PLEASE NOTE that I do not recommend keumboo on rings that will be worn daily.
Avoid perfumes, cosmetics, lotions and hairsprays - please put your jewellery on last.
Please do not wear your jewellery in the bath or shower, and do not wear while swimming.

Follow the cleaning steps above for pieces with keumboo. Please do not use silver dip.

Should any pieces require keumboo to be reapplied, please contact me via email. There may be a charge for this, but items will be judged on a case to case basis.

If the piece is less than 12 months old and reapplication of keumboo is required as a result of general wear, then there will be no charge.
